DALLAS, TX – Authorities said a pedestrian was struck and killed by an 18-wheeler on a highway in West Dallas Thursday morning, reports WFAA.

The accident happened on I-30 west near Edgefield Avenue sometime after 5:15 a.m.  According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, a man was reported to be walking in the express lanes of the interstate.

A short time later, the sheriff’s office said it learned that a pedestrian had been struck in the left lane of I-30 by an 18-wheeler.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident shut down the westbound lanes of I-30 while the crash was being investigated, causing heavy traffic delays.
