GARLAND, TX – Two people died and one driver was arrested following a fiery rear-end collision in Garland early Sunday morning.

According to NBC DFW, the incident occurred when an SUV rear-ended a maroon sedan in the westbound lanes of Highway 66, near Dexham Road at about 2:30 a.m.

The force of the impact sent the sedan into a concrete barrier. The vehicle then overturned and crashed into a ditch before catching fire, trapping both occupants inside.

The two unidentified individuals in the car suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver in the SUV, 30-year-old Gustavo Huerta Jr., was arrested after showing signs of impairment at the scene.

Huerta has since been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
