MESQUITE, TX – Police say a young girl died after being hit by a vehicle in Mesquite on Wednesday, according to CBS DFW.
Investigators said the 8-year-old had run out into the street while crossing to a waiting car in the 400 block of Feather Crest Lane. She ran in front of a Ford E-250 van and was struck.
The child was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead. The driver of the van was not injured. Police said the driver stayed at the scene until medical personnel arrived, and is not facing criminal charges at this time.
The Mesquite Police Department is investigating the accident, calling it “a heartbreaking tragedy.”
