ARLINGTON, TX – Police in Arlington said a child passed away of injuries sustained in a collision on Interstate 20 Sunday afternoon, reports NBC DFW.
The accident involved an 18-wheeler and a Ford Escape SUV, and occurred on I-20 east near Highway 287 shortly before 2 p.m.
Police said the Escape driver veered in front of the truck, which then hit the back of the SUV and caused it to go off the road. The Escape rolled down an embankment and a 9-month-old boy sitting unrestrained in the lap of an adult passenger was thrown from the vehicle. He died after being taken to an area hospital.
Five other passengers in the SUV were hospitalized with injuries that were not regarded as life-threatening. The two drivers involved were not seriously injured.
Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident.
