GRAND PRAIRIE, TX – Two people were killed in a crash involving a tractor trailer and several other vehicles in Grand Prairie, police said.

According to CBS DFW, the incident occurred Monday in the southbound lanes of Highway 287  between State Highway 360 and Prairie Ridge at about noon.

Police said traffic had become congested on the highway as a result of construction work. The driver of a tractor trailer was unable to control the truck’s speed and crashed into three other vehicles that had slowed in the congestion.

Two men who were driving two of the vehicles that were hit were pronounced dead at the scene, while occupants of the other vehicle were not hurt.

A portion of US 287 was shut down for about five hours while crews and investigators worked the scene.
