FORT WORTH, TX – A man was arrested followed a car accident that left a Fort Worth police officer seriously injured last week.

According to KDFW, the incident took place in the area of Lancaster Avenue and Oakland Boulevard Wednesday night at about 11 p.m.

Police said an officer was driving his patrol SUV with his lights and siren on while responding to a call when he was hit by another vehicle, causing the police vehicle to go off the road and hit a tree.  The officer was extricated from the SUV and was taken to John Smith Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, 27-year-old Celso Malia of Fort Worth, allegedly fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later.

Police said Malia showed signs of intoxication and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of intoxicated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
