MANSFIELD, TX – Police said a pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle in Mansfield on Tuesday, reports CBS Dallas.

Mansfield police officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of U.S. Highway 287 South after a driver there called 911, believing he may have hit a deer.

The officers arrived to find a man seriously injured in the center median, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the man appeared to have been struck by a southbound vehicle as he tried to walk across the highway.  His identity was not immediately released.

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.  No charges have been filed.
