RHOME, TX – Authorities say a suspect was arrested following a crash in Rhome Sunday morning that killed a 5-year-old child, reports CBS DFW.
According to Rhome police, 18-year-old Christopher Fowler was spotted driving on the wrong side of the road on U.S. 287 by a Texas DPS trooper.
The trooper drove parallel to Fowler and tried cutting him off to prevent an accident, but police said Fowler ended up crashing into a vehicle that had two children inside, ages 14 and 5. The 5-year-old died at the scene, while the teenager was hospitalized with serious injuries.
After the crash, police said Fowler fled the scene but was tracked down and apprehended following a manhunt by four law enforcement agencies.
He now faces several charges, including manslaughter and accident involving injury or death.
