DALLAS, TX – A driver died after crashing into a vehicle on the Julius Schepps Freeway in Dallas early Monday morning, according to CBS DFW.

Police said a retired Dallas off-duty officer was working security and had parked an SUV in the freeway’s northbound left lane to block for a road crew.  A woman who was driving a Nissan had changed lanes to pass another vehicle and slammed into the back of the SUV at about 4:35 a.m.

The woman, whose name was immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The off-duty officer was listed in stable condition after being taken to an area hospital.

The SUV had its emergency lights flashing at the time of the collision, police said.
