MESQUITE, TX – Police said a wrong-way collision in Mesquite Sunday morning claimed the lives of both drivers, according to WFAA.

Investigators determined that the driver of a Dodge Charger was going south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 635, and collided head-on with a Toyota Highlander near La Prada Drive at about 5:45 a.m.
The two drivers were both pronounced dead at the scene. The Highlander driver was identified as 41-year-old Halimatou Barry. The other driver was not immediately identified.

Police said that prior to the crash, an officer had tried to get the attention of the Charger driver after spotting them going in the wrong direction.

I-635 north was shut down for hours following the wreck while the scene was being cleared.
