Insurance companies will be busy over the next few weeks estimating the the damages left by thunderstorms, tornadoes and hail that rolled through the Dallas and Fort Worth area during the evening hours of May 15, 2013. Tornado warnings were being sounded all over the metroplex. However, in Granbury, a small suburb 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth, saw the highest death toll when a tornado ripped through a neighborhood claiming six lives, while seven more are currently unaccounted for. About 50 people were taken to area hospitals for personal injuries. Of the six deaths, no children are currently reported among the victims.
Ariel photos show a path of destruction through the quiet rural area of Granbury. The twister is estimated to have been a F-2. Surprisingly, this is lower on the Fujistu scale which goes up F-5. The Granbury tornado was just one of a flurry of twisters that were spotted throughout he Dallas/Fort Worth area, and North Texas. Residents also reported baseball size hail in some areas.
