DALLAS, TX – Police said they detained a driver who left the scene of a deadly car crash in west Oak Cliff Friday that killed a teenager.
The Dallas Morning News reports a Lexus SUV and an Oldsmobile minivan were involved in the collision on West Illinois Avenue at about 5:30 p.m.
According to Dallas police, the Lexus driver lost control of the SUV while speeding and crashed into the Oldsmobile, which then hit a curb, a utility pole, and two trees.
One of the trees struck a 16-year-old who was sitting in the back seat of the minivan. She was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead. A woman in the Oldsmobile was hospitalized, but her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Investigators said the driver of the SUV kept going after the crash and was taken into custody at a gas station several miles from the scene. Charges were pending against the driver, whose identity was not immediately released.
