Can I Change My Doctor in a Personal Injury Case?

Question:  I was injured in a car wreck about a year ago.  The attorney sent me to a doctor (chiropractor).  I have been treating with no real improvement in my condition.  Will it hurt my case if I get a second opinion?

Robert’s Answer:  No, it will not hurt to get a second opinion.  Do not let the attorney dictate your medical treatment.  Many times, your attorney will refer you to doctor for treatment just because the attorney has a relationship with that doctor.  And in most cases, you get treated and everything works out just fine.  But that is a “cookie-cutter” approach to personal injury law.  Every case is different.  Every client is different, and every injury is different.
