A University of Northern Colorado student died in a head-on collision when his car veered off the road into oncoming traffic. Witnesses say that the driver’s head was down and typing a text when the car accident occurred. The accident happened on April 3, 2013, in Greeley, Colorado. The grief stricken parents of Alexander Heit, 22, decided to release the story to the public in order to bring the dangers of texting while driving to the attention of others. “In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the heart of everyone who loves you” quoting the victim’s mother. The driver’s smart phone was recovered from the accident scene with an unsent text message which read: “Sounds good my man, seeya soon…” The identity of the recipient is being held confidential by officials pending their investigation.
